From June 29 to July 10, 2026, the city of Toulouse, France, will host the TIRIS x UNIVERSEH Summer School on Space and Sustainability, an ambitious international program aimed at Master’s and PhD students from all disciplines who wish to explore the future of space through the lens of sustainability.
Co-organized by TIRIS and UNIVERSEH, this summer school offers a unique interdisciplinary learning experience entirely taught in English. Participants will engage with leading academics, researchers, and professionals through a rich combination of lectures, masterclasses, round tables, and hands-on workshops. The program also includes site visits to emblematic aerospace locations such as Airbus and La Cité de l’Espace, as well as networking and cultural activities that showcase Toulouse’s vibrant scientific and cultural ecosystem.
Structured around three core themes — Environment and Sustainable Space, Society and Sustainable Space, and Human and Sustainable Space — the summer school addresses key scientific, technological, ethical, and societal challenges linked to space activities. Topics range from the use of satellite data to monitor climate change, to space law, geopolitics, and the societal impacts of the New Space economy. A highlight of the program is the collective challenge “The Mars Village”, where participants work in multidisciplinary teams to design a sustainable human habitat on Mars.
Beyond academic excellence, the Summer School offers full immersion in Toulouse, Europe’s capital of aeronautics and space.
