This festival is co-organized by the University of Toulouse, its institutions, and partners.
For this second edition, the UNIVERSEH Toulouse team organized two special workshops on the ecological transition in the space sector at two different institutions.
Participation in European Discussions: An Immersive Approach to Space Sustainability
On this day, the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaurès and ISAE-SUPAERO hosted two sessions of a workshop entitled “Serious game – the environmental challenges of space tourism” during the day.
In total, around 20 students and a few professionals took part in this unique workshop, where they took on the role of MEPs for a few hours during a simulated debate on an environmental issue related to the space sector. Participants were able to familiarize themselves with European policy issues while exploring the challenges of space, such as space tourism and its environmental impact.
For several hours, participants vigorously developed and defended their proposed amendments, putting themselves in the shoes of the European political parties they were representing. They had to debate and find common ground with other teams representing opposing parties. An immersive and engaging experience that allowed participants to spend half a day immersed in the daily life of Members of the European Parliament.
This serious game workshop, developed by OSE – ISAE-SUPAERO’s equal opportunities programme, offered a unique opportunity to reflect on sustainability in space and understand the interactions between these two dimensions while enjoying the art of debating.

Discovery and exploration of space sustainability through a collaborative fresco
On the afternoon of the festival, ISAE-SUPAERO students were able to participate in a second unique workshop, spending several exciting hours elaborating a Space Fresco.
Based on the well-known Climate Fresk model, a workshop that uses collective intelligence to provide a fun way of understanding the mechanisms of climate change, the Space Fresco invites teams to explore all space activities and examine both the promises and consequences of space activities on the environment, both on Earth and in orbit.
Designed in collaboration with scientists, researchers and engineers, this workshop draws on the latest scientific and technological knowledge. Its teaching methods have been refined with teachers and fresco authors to combine cognitive understanding, emotional reflection and behavioural alignment, thereby maximising both impact and action.
By creating this Space Fresco, space-passionate students and future professionals of the sector were able to collectively reflect on the challenges of space activities, while questioning their own approach and perspective on these concerns.

Overall, it was an inspiring and engaging day at the second edition of the Futurs Proches Festival in Toulouse. The local UNIVERSEH’s staff team warmly thanks the students for their brilliant animation of the serious game sessions, the Space Fresco team for their vibrant and inspiring facilitation, and the festival organizers at the Toulouse institutions for their precious support.
We look forward to next year and other inspiring experiences across the campuses in transition at the Futurs Proches Festival!
