WELCOME TO LUXEMBOURG
Presentation of the University
The University of Luxembourg is a public, international, multilingual research university founded in 2003. It aims to shape a digital, healthy, and sustainable future by combining fundamental and applied research with education. The university focuses on innovation for society and is known for its international outlook, offering many programs in multiple languages and hosting a diverse student and staff community.
The University is located at Belval Campus in Esch-sur-Alzette, on the redeveloped grounds of a former steel industry complex. The area combines striking modern architecture with preserved industrial heritage such as the blast furnaces. It hosts most of the university’s faculties, research centers, the Luxembourg Learning Centre (main library), student housing, restaurants, cultural venues, and the Rockhal concert hall, making it a vibrant academic and cultural quarter.

Inside the EU, the health insurance from your home EU country is generally valid in all other EU countries. However, please make sure to contact your health insurer to verify that and get the free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
Third-party Liability: A multi risk insurance covers the renter for potential damage for which someone may personally be held liable for. It is also valid for all damage to others for which someone may be held liable (e.g.: flooding the neighbour’s flat).
In Luxembourg, there are several options for students to find accommodation. Typically, students either rent a flat or room on the private market or they live in student housing.

ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Luxembourg City is the capital and largest city of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is both historic and modern, home to the fortified old town classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and to major European institutions such as the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Investment Bank. The city offers a high quality of life, cultural diversity, international schools, and excellent transport links to Brussels, Paris, and Frankfurt.
The climate in Luxembourg is temperate oceanic. Winters are relatively mild, with temperatures around 0–5°C, while summers are cool to warm, averaging 20–25°C. Rainfall is distributed throughout the year, cloud cover is frequent, and snowfall occurs occasionally in winter. The moderate climate, combined with green landscapes and forests, makes Luxembourg attractive for outdoor activities year-round.
The currency of Luxembourg is the euro (€), adopted in 1999 as electronic currency and in 2002 as notes and coins. Luxembourg is a founding member of the Eurozone and continues to issue its own national designs for euro coins. Payments by card and contactless methods are widely accepted, making everyday transactions simple and convenient.
Language is central to life in Luxembourg. Luxembourgish, French, and German are official languages, with English widely used in business, higher education, and international settings. This multilingualism creates an inclusive environment for students and professionals alike. What languages do people speak in Luxembourg? – Luxembourg
