Innovative Digital Learning & Teaching Approaches for Higher Education within UNIVERSEH

Discover innovative platforms created as part of UNIVERSEH and explore new approaches to learning and teaching through interactive and accessible digital experiences.

As higher education continues to evolve, universities must develop innovative teaching methods adapted to new learning needs. In this context, UNIVERSEH promotes digital education through two innovative platforms: MLearn and IREAL, developed by the IDEA team (Innovative Digital Education for Aerospace) at ISAE-SUPAERO.

These tools aim to make learning more flexible, interactive, and accessible for students across Europe, especially in the field of aerospace education.

MLearn: Microlearning for Space Education

MLearn is an innovative microlearning platform developed within UNIVERSEH. It provides learners with direct access to ADNs (Aerospace Digital Nuggets), short digital learning units focused on a specific topic.

Designed to deliver concise and effective learning experiences in less than 30 minutes, ADNs can include videos, quizzes, simulations, interactive modules, and multimedia activities created with H5P technology.
ADNs offer several educational benefits and are:

  • Reusable learning contents adaptable to different educational con-texts.
  • Simple and interactive formats designed to support active learning.
  • Efficient short learning sequences that improve concentration and engagement.
  • Accessible anywhere and anytime on any device.

MLearn promotes microlearning approaches and supports more flexible and student-centered educational experiences.

Are you a student looking for a new way to learn about space? Join the MLearn platform for free, to access more than 40 interactive ADNs, short digital learning modules, and innovative educational resources covering various disciplines such as Space Engineering, Space History, Space Business and Entrepreneurship… and many more!

IREAL: Interactive Remote Experimentation

Interactive Remote Experimentation for Active Learning (IREAL) is an innovative platform dedicated to remote scientific experimentation in higher education. Also developed by the IDEA team at ISAE-SUPAERO, the project aims to facilitate access to scientific laboratory experiences through the digitalization of real experiments.

Unlike simulated virtual labs, IREAL is based on real scientific installations transformed into interactive digital learning experiences. Through a simple web browser, students can remotely explore experiments, manipulate parameters, access synchronized measurements and multimedia data, and interact with authentic laboratory environments.

Initially developed for STEM and aerospace education, IREAL now supports various scientific fields and contributes to making practical experimentation more accessible, flexible, and scalable for higher education institutions across Europe.

IREAL is built around four main principles:

  • Accessible: experiments are available anywhere, anytime, and on any device
  • Realistic: experiments are based on real laboratory installations and never simulated
  • Robust: once digitalized, experiments remain permanently available
  • Scalable: suitable for both small and large groups of learners

Several experiments related to UNIVERSEH are currently being digitized through IREAL, including a Satellite Reaction Wheel experiment focused on active disturbance rejection on spacecraft, LunaLab, which allows learners to observe the behavior of a lunar rover under different environmental configurations, and Turbofan experiments dedicated to aerospace propulsion systems.

Through IREAL, students can freely discover laboratory experimentation in a more flexible and interactive way. Visit the IREAL platform and access remote access to real scientific experiments and immersive practical activities!

Not Only for Students: Two Digital Innovative Tools for Teaching

Teachers and educators in UNIVERSEH higher education institutions are strongly encouraged and welcome to use the MLearn and IREAL platforms to develop their own innovative and interactive educational content. By offering intuitive digital resources that are easy to learn and use, these platforms support the creation of interactive learning activities and remote experimentation opportunities, easily integrated into courses, practical sessions, and training programs.

If you are a teacher at a UNIVERSEH partner university and are interested in creating an ADN on MLearn or using IREAL, please contact the IDEA team!

Through initiatives such as MLearn and IREAL, UNIVERSEH contributes to exploring innovative educational practices and expanding digital learning opportunities in higher education.
