Contemporary workplaces increasingly bring together professionals with different disciplinary backgrounds and cultural experiences. While such diversity can foster innovation and collaboration, differences in norms, values, communication modes, and interpretations of work-place situations may also create experiences of uncertainty, ambiguity, and psychological discomfort.
This presentation explores the psychological processes underlying interactions across cultural boundaries in interdisciplinary and international workplaces. Drawing on an intercultural psychological perspective, it examines the latent cultural differences and how individuals experience and respond to them when familiar cultural or professional frameworks no longer provide clear guidelines for action. Particular attention is given to the interaction between professional/disciplinary cultures and broader cultural backgrounds.
The presentation will conclude by discussing the psychological re-sources and intercultural skills that may facilitate the negotiation of cultural differences and support more appropriate interactions in culturally diverse professional environments.
