DG DEFIS announces two new initiatives aimed at improving the skills situation in the space sector

The European Commission's Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) announces two initiatives designed to propel aspiring professionals towards fulfilling careers within the space industry.

Ready to take your first steps on the space career?

  • The Job Placement Scheme connects university students and recent graduates with hands-on internships and job opportunities in local space companies. Gain valuable experience and network with industry experts to launch your space career.

Intrigued by the mysteries of space but still in school?

  • CASSINI Space Summer Camp ignites the passion for space in students aged 14-18. The school will inspire students to pursue a career in the space sector.

These initiatives directly address the critical need for skilled professionals within the rapidly expanding space sector.

Aligning with the European Year of Skills and the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence, they aim to:

  • Equip tomorrow’s workforce with the specialised skillsets demanded by the innovative space industry.
  • Bridge the gap between academic institutions and industry, ensuring seamless career transitions for graduates.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive workforce by encouraging more young women to pursue careers in space.
