Inclusion and Diversity: Highlights from the UNIVERSEH Staff Week in Toulouse

From April 22 to 26, the University of Toulouse hosted a week of enriching exchanges focused on inclusion and diversity.

The event welcomed European staff members from the UNIVERSEH universities for a series of insightful discussions and workshops.

The week began with a warm welcome at the Université de Toulouse and included engaging sessions on Dilami and Atypie-Friendly initiatives. Participants were then given the opportunity to learn from various lectures and practical workshops held by experts and stakeholders from UNIVERSEH’s Toulouse network.

Among the highlights of the week:

  1. Discussions on Inequality Issues at Toulouse INP

Participants delved into challenges and questions related to inequality of opportunities at Toulouse INP – Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse. These discussions were pivotal in understanding the broader implications of diversity and inclusion in higher education.

  1. Insights from Fabienne Borloz at Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier

The week featured enriching exchanges with Fabienne Borloz, Project Leader on Disability. Her expertise provided valuable perspectives on the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in academic settings.

  1. Practical Workshops at ISAE-SUPAERO

ISAE-SUPAERO organized hands-on workshops on inclusion and auditory impairments. These sessions offered practical insights and strategies for creating more inclusive environments in educational institutions.

  1. Focus on Women in Aeronautics and Aerospace at TBS Education

TBS Education highlighted the theme of women in aeronautics and aerospace through round tables and Q&A sessions. Representatives from Airbus, Thales and Daher Industrial Services presented their diversity and inclusion policies, showcasing their commitment to gender equality in these fields.

  1. Visit to the Cité de l’Espace

A visit to the Cité de l’Espace was a key highlight, preceded by an address from Noémi Schosmann, Accessibility Leader. This visit allowed participants to explore the intersection of space exploration and accessibility.

  1. Conference at Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès

Participants attended a conference titled “Libraries and Disability: Practical Implementation of a University Policy,” led by Léa Bouillet, Head of the Public Department in the library. This session underscored the practical steps universities can take to foster inclusivity in their facilities.

These diverse activities made the staff week a catalyst for reflection and action towards greater inclusion and diversity within the UNIVERSEH community. The event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting equity and accessibility in higher education.
