Student team from uni.lu to conduct experiment aboard the ISS

A team of students from the University of Luxembourg was selected as one of the winners of the “Überflieger 2” competition and will be able to conduct a scientific experiment aboard the International Space Station in late 2022 or early 2023.

The research project BRAINS (Biological Research using Artificial Intelligence for Neuroscience in Space) focuses on cell growth in zero gravity. The interdisciplinary project team consists of PhD and master students from two of the university’s research centres, the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB)  and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust. The competition was organised by Germany’s and Luxembourg’s space agencies DLR and LSA. Four winners were chosen. In addition to the team from Luxembourg, students from the universities of Munich, Stuttgart and Hanover were also selected.
