Drawing Contest: Comic Strips about Space Exploration

Have you ever dreamed of walking on an unknown planet, piloting an interstellar spacecraft, or encountering life forms from beyond our world? The Universe is waiting for you… and it’s up to you to bring it to life!

This contest is open to residents of the UNIVERSEH countries! 

As part the Space Week UNamur 2025, UNamur invite you to embark on an extraordinary adventure themed around space exploration. Imagine daring missions, spectacular discoveries, or distant civilizations, and tell their stories through drawings and speech bubbles!

Whether you’re a science fiction enthusiast, a starry-eyed dreamer, or an aspiring artist, this contest is made for you. So, are you ready for takeoff? Grab your pencils, and may creativity be with you!

Why a comic strip contest?

Belgium is distinguished by a rich and influential comic strip tradition, regularly ranked among the most prestigious in the world. It has given birth to iconic characters and series, such as The Adventures of Tintin created by Hergé and The Smurfs imagined by Peyo, which have captivated an international audience. Through its significant contribution, Belgium has played a major role in establishing comic art as a true art form, inspiring many generations of artists across Europe and beyond.

Practical Information

  • Theme: Space Exploration.

  • Format: One A4 comic strip page, either on paper or digital — with or without dialogue.

  • Audience: The contest is open to residents of the UNIVERSEH countries: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Sweden

  • Language: The use of foreign languages is encouraged. Dialogues can be written in the following languages: French, English, Luxembourgish, German, Polish, Italian, and Swedish.

  • Four participant categories:

    • Child (6–12 years)

    • Youth (13–18 years)

    • UNIVERSEH Student (Bachelor, Master, and PhD)

    • Adult (19–99 years)

  • Prizes: Gift vouchers for the winners, opportunities to be exhibited at events, and to be published in an international digital anthology.

  • Calendar: submit your comic strip from October 4, 2025 to January 2, 2026.
